This page outlines work in progress at Council's or recreation providers.  Usually at the 'strategy' or long term planning level, it often doesn't relate to specific parks or trails but can set direction for many years to come.

ARC Horse Riding Strategy

The Auckland Regional Authority currently has a project to review current horse riding opportunities in their parks and to create a strategy for the future.  This project is a result of submissions to the ARC LTCCP.

In 2007 a workshop involving a number of interested horse riding groups and individuals was held to discuss issues and come up with ideas.

Research into horse riding in the region was commissioned. This looked at current access, demand and comparisons to international best practice.

Government Walking Access Bill 2008

This is the government's answer to the public access for recreation use (Queen's chain + private land).  The only access it provides is for walkers (the PM is a keen walker, coincidence??) and there are specific penalties for horses, dogs and vehicles (but not cycles).  Submissions are open and Bridleways Auckland will be making a submission to the Select Committee. We encourage all others to do so too or to add your support to our submission (Join below).

Select Committee Hearings to be scheduled

Rodney Bridleways Strategy

Rodney District Council adopted a bridleways strategy in 2007.

Status: A working party is to be set up to begin implementation of the proposals in the strategy.  Unfortunately this appears to have dropped into a black hole.  We have made further submissions to the Annual Plan 2008.

Status Unknown.
