Auckland is a region, and a city.  The city itself is a relatively small area of the region and only covers some of the central isthmus of Auckland.

The Auckland Region, however extends from the Bombay Hills in the South (where Auckland meets the Waikato) to Wellsford in the North (where Auckland meets Northland).

Regional, District, Local Councils

Within the Auckland Region there are many local, district, city and regional authorities. Getting stuff done and finding information can be a nightmare. However, it is important to understand who controls what.  Lobbying the local council for access to a regional park or complaining to the regional council about access restrictions on a commercial asset is a waste of time, although they may talk to one another each authority and company controls its own resources.

On each page about riding I will tell you who owns that resource and (if I know) the contact details. I strongly encourage you all to get active in advocacy for horse riding and sports access.
